Default Help Please with Aussie Locker Install (Carrier Issue)

Hello Everyone,

I have a peculiar problem I could use some help on.

Current Setup:
2008 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited X
Dana 30 Front Open Diff.
Stock 3.21 Gears

Just purchased Superior 5.13 Gears for front and back and the newest Aussie Locker, along with a new carrier (Dana 30 3.73 & Up Carrier (Yukon : DS 706008).

Rear installation was completed successfully, woohoo! Mechanic gets to the front diff. and begins to install the Aussie Locker after meticulously reading the provided manual. Granted, myself included thought this would be the easiest part of the job. Today, the mechanic demonstrated to me that the pinion shaft will not fit through the spacers with the provided and much needed JK thrust washers. Aussie was called promptly this afternoon. (Also unfortunately, my entire stock carrier and gears were blitzed, but covered under warranty due to a previous repair by another dealership.)

Now, the question is: is this carrier not compatible with the newer Dana 30s’ on the JKs, or could Aussie have shipped the wrong parts inside the XD-13227 box, or perhaps a different solution?

Hopefully Aussie will return the call and have some enlightenment to share. The dealership has agreed to get another stock carrier and see if that solves the problem as well. The mechanic who has done other ring & pinion jobs other than 5.13 had not heard of the requirement to get a different carrier. That is something I did on my own due to reading from several forums and asking companies that sell the carriers.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Sean

Got an email from 4WS.com today and they stated that the carrier they sold me is what the Aussie is designed to fit in. Also, they said that my factory carrier would work with any JK specific gears because they are "thick cut". So apparently there is conflicting information going around in regards to needing a replacement carrier if going higher than 3.73.

Considering the highly specific contents of this topic, I'm not anticipating any replies. Hopefully it will serve as a reference for someone in the future via the famous Search button.

Just got the Jeep back yesterday. I can now confirm that the stock carrier will work fine with the new gears and the aussie locker. All is well. The aftermarket yukon carrier would not work for the aussie locker. Hopefully this information can save someone the aggravation I had to endure.

On a side note, tested out the aussie locker briefly today and it was extremely impressive. Went to an old mudhole from my past that stuck both my jeep and previous f-150. Jeep walked right through, slow and steady, never had to race the engine or get crazy.

Very disappointing that Jeep would sell a 4x4 with an open diff front and back. You would think they would give you at least 3 wheels spinning instead of 2. Since it was my first Jeep, I really didn't realize what I was getting into.

I look forward to the release of the JK Dana 44 locker towards the end of the year, then I can have a true 4x4.

Hope this helps,
Sean
