Default Help with re-gearing

Hey guys, I'm getting a 3" BDS lift and 35's on soon. I have an '07 4dr Sahara with 3:21 gears. I'm sure it will be fine for a while, but I have no concept of what re-gearing requires. I see some 4:10's for sale for pretty cheap on the forum. In order to re-gear what are the total new components I would need? I would have them professionally installed. I believe the Sahara came standard with D30 front and D44 rear.

You will find that regearing is labor-intensive (i.e. labor-expensive), so if you are thinking about having it done to run 35's, I'd consider spending the extra $$ to move up to a higher gearing, such as 4.88's (if you have a manual), or 5.13's (if you have an auto.)

In answer to your question, though, in addition to front and rear gears, I believe you will need the heavier carriers, as I understand the ones from 3.21's are thinner.

There is a reason there are 4.10's for sale on the forum. They Re-geared.

Save up a while and go with 4.88 or 5.13's.

I'm going to put 4.88's in my 2 dr but I have a friend with 4.10's and a 4 dr with 4" lift and 35's and its works well for him.

Right now i am running 35"s with 4.10s and a regear to 5.13's is on my list just not on the top of my list right now. if you are going to regear i would go ahead and go with atleast 4.88's.even if you get the 4.10 really cheap you will have to spend the time and money to have them put in.I would just hate for you to not be happy with the 4.10 and go though another regear.

First off, listen to Toad. She is all wise. I will differ from her slightly and say if you have a manual trans you can go with 4.88s. If you have the auto, 5.13s are the only way to fly with the 35s. There are some on the forum who say they have 3.73s and 4.10s with 35s and are happy. I kinda have to question that because I think if they could see what a difference the correct gearing would make, they would want to regear. And as far as a regear goes, hire a professional. If it's something you've never done, now ain't the time to start learnin.

so many opinions...the popular choice most definately if your running 35's and think you might go taller is to do what Redneck says for sure.....but I as well will differ from the rest, I believe it all comes down to expectations and what you truly wish to achieve....lots of regearing questions here....like I've mentioned a few times now, I'm running 33's with 3.21's and the 6speed right now and yes it's a little underpowered and yes I do plan on going with 4.10's here shortly...BUT I like getting half decent fuel economy as this is primarily my daily driver, and I'm not looking for race car performance....offroad I have NO issues at all with the power, that's why I have gears and a transfer case....would more power be nice? Sure, but not at the cost in my opinion for what I do and what I need, and that's what I believe you need to answer in the end. Just my opinion
oh and I should add, being as this is my DD I have NO plans to run anything higher than 33's (I know I know, others are going to say just give it time and I will want bigger tires...we'll see)

oh and to answer your question, yes the sahara has dana30 front and dana44 rear stock....you'll need to get yourself the ring and pinion gears (once you've settled on a size) then you'll need the overhaul kits to go with 'em which includes the shims you'll need, new bearings, nuts and bolts etc. I'm not entirely sure about the carrier's needing to be changed but I've heard there have been size issues and fitment issues regarding the dana30....Dave at Northridge can help you out for sure

You COULD actually see MPG improve slightly with 4.10s. You never know.
