Exclamation Help saving my project - Hemi swap

Hey all!

Based out in the middle east, started a project with my 2014 JK (2 door), originally a manual, sent the car away for an engine conversion and a year later after fighting like crazy, managed to get my car back.

It's in a sorry state. Basically the guy doing it for me played me, lied and deceived me for a full year, cheated me out of 1000s and caused me a lot of stress. Had to get some people involved to get my car out of his garage as he didn't want to give it back.

Now the past is out the way let's move forward.

I go the car back and currently it's in the following state:
  • Has a 2019 Hemi 5.7 from a Dodge Ram
  • 8HP75 transmission
  • Manifold and exhaust piping
  • A load of wiring spliced up
  • Original engine mounts removed from the chassis
Engine is in the car, but propped up with a piece of metal...

I know at some stage the engine started and ran and I believe it to be a good engine.

I need to know what else is needed.

I spoke with various people and they said this engine combo with 8sp is a struggle with the JK, especially it being a manual. Trying to understand why though?

Forgive me if my terminology isn't quite right, whilst I love cars and engines, working on them is limited so I'm learning as I go.

Just wanting to understand what I'm facing and then find someone to sort it for me.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I came across them and it seems like they do everything required.

Watching a lot more videos and starting to get a full understanding of the build.

Definitely want to go into this second time round with a lot more knowledge.

Yeah hard to say what you need other than taking it to a reputable conversion shop. The Chyrsler conversion should be easier to "talk" to the Jeep but from what I have read you should have gotten the ECU from the truck along with the harness as you use the truck ECU but my knowledge stops there. I did the Chev 5.3 LT but as a plug & play package from Motech so I have multiple ECUs in the Jeep. First thing is to get that engine mounted properly at the front and check what they did at the rear mount/adapter. Other important hardware is radiator system, AC system and gear shifter. Rest will be electronics and ECU programming. Exhaust last. Good luck.

Hey!

That's the issue, finding someone reputable who will take on a half finished project... I have done some analysis on this end and I think I have most of it figured out.

No ECU or harness from the original truck, the guy who was supposed to do the work stole a load of parts. But I believe the harness and PCM from Jeep Speed Shop should do the trick.

But yeah, first things first, get the engine mounted (need mounts for the chassis and engine) and then move forward with the rest.

Hopefully be able to make good from this and post my build up on YouTube

Yeah I hear ya. Not a lot of support out there and I do believe your EPA is on a murderous rampage to crush the evil polluters and they hit tuner manufacturers/sellers and conversion shops. So the shop guys are vaporizing fast. You may get a private person from one of these shops to help on the quiet. Where do you live as home base in the US?

Yup. Jeep Speed shop would be your best resource. His website has all your BOM(Build of Materials) needed. At bottom of his webpages, there are links to YouTube videos of others doing the conversions. I used those videos to build mine and it was very helpful. Before that, I never done a conversion before!

Hey, I'm not in the US sadly, based in the Middle East.

Thanks for all the tips.

As I'm using an 8sp gearbox, anyone know how to fit the JL shifter (physically) with the JK centre console?

Thanks!

There is a way but you’ll have to use a late model grand Cherokee floor shifter. This will allow you to use the JL shifter knob since the stick is long enough. The challenger shifter is too short for the JL knob but can be used. It just looks weird The JL floor shifter will not work because the wiring is different than the challenger or grand Cherokee floor shifter if you’re using PCS TCM 2800 module. You will also need flashed the trans TCM with Grand Cherokee in order for manual shift to work. Below is the video of a JL shifter on a JK.
