Default Help with Skids

Which undercarriage armor is best for moderate trailing? I have been looking at Evo and can’t afford Rock Hard. I also still need to get sliders.

I have been trailing more and more, mostly in the East Tn area. I avoid climbing large rocks but occasionally will slam the undercarriage on hidden obstacles, lately during a water crossing.

I tend to stick with moderate trails but stumble upon more difficult ones when exploring.

If you don’t have sliders then I’d go with those first. Get a gas tank skid for now and a good set of sliders. Try to avoid body mounted sliders since they can bend your lower tub where they mount. Some body mounted sliders also use the actual body to frame points as mounts as well, those are a better option if you don’t want a frame mounted slider.

Unless you’re playing in big rocks, you are probably fine in general. The TC skid is decent enough for most. Maybe add a tranny skid to protect the front. If you play in the rocks, the gas tank and the cross-member on the 4dr take a beating. The cheapest aftermarket gas skid is good enough and just overlays the factory skid/"hanger" and beefy cross-member is nice to have. You don’t really need to have a whole matching system…..just something for peace of mind if you’re worried bout it.

Obviously keep in mind that every lb starts to add up in the long run.

You're welcome to view my toy, but my skids are minimal. Money is better spent on reinforcing the control arm mounts- they like to taco out....particularly the rears.

Sliders for sure but I would not worry about skids, they are one of the most over done mods that people really don't need and it looses you ground clearance and weighs you down. Neither are good for off roading.

I have a 2017 Sahara JKU, I looked under it and all that is on it is factory armor on gas tank and evap. Does this change priorities?

You should have a transmission skid or your motor would fall out once the motor mounts broke.

It is the 3.6 auto. Is this a common issue or is it just me?

I bought it used at a dealership and it was bone stock with low miles.

I thought that was standard, maybe they did away with the skid on later models. So you just have the transmission cross member and nothing that goes from side to side under the transfer case? I was just joking about the motor falling out.

3,6L auto JKU came with tc skid, gas tank hanger/skid, and a wimpy ass little bar protecting the tranny.
