Default Hemi and Auto Insurance

For those who have Hemi Conversions:

What did you do for auto insurance? Really, two questions:

1. What did you do post conversion with your insurance company? Did you insure your Jeep for the +$20,000? Did you tell them at all? Did they give you flak?

2. How much more did it cost to insure?

I mean if you have a $30K Jeep and add $5K of wheels and bumpers = $35K. If it gets stolen and the insurance pays $25K you lose $10K. If you you have a $30K Jeep + $5K wheels/bumper + $22K Hemi Conv = $57K. A loss with $25K insurance payout would be $27 loss.

Never mind collision or medical payments, just what are you doing for insurance?

Suggestion, if this is not a DD for work purposes then you might consider classic car insurance, i.e. Grundy or whomever. When I had my high dollar Kenne Bell Supercharged Cobra convertible, that's who I used. With those guys, you literally just chose a dollar amount of coverage you want on the vehicle and the premium is based on that amount. No Blue Book involved. Anyway, that's just a though...

Exactly. I did the same thing with my Top Secret twin turbo G37. The great thing about Grundy is that it isnt blue book based, so the payout value never goes down. Wasnt too expensive either, I had my car insured for 40k and was paying about 120 a month.

Thanks guys. That's a great idea.

I now recall I had classic car insurance about 20 years ago on my 67 GTO. It was pretty cheap all things considered and they recognized most owners of classic cars are a bit more picky about where they park and anti-theft.
