Question Herculiner questions...

I am going to herculine the tub of my Unlimited tomorrow (weather permitting) and have a couple of questions:

1. Will 1 gallon be enough for 2 coats?
2. Would using a different roller than the one that comes with it give it a smoother finish? Has anyone tried a different type of roller? I am thinking of triying one of those white foam rollers.

Any input or additional thoughts are appreciated and welcome.

I know I am not answering your question exactly, but I used a regular 2'' paintbrush and it left the roughest finish ever I think, Personally I dont like it much. Also, the stuff is very durable, and very thick, It is pretty cool, it will fill in any imperfections you may have and make everything look uniform. My biggest advice to give you is to wear LATEX GLOVES, if it gets on you it will be there for at least a week, my first coat left me with black hands. As far as the coverage, A gallon says it will do a 6 foot truck bed and then a quart will cover the additional 2 feet for an 8 foot bed You should be alright with a gallon but it may be cutting it close. Here is a picture to show you the texture.

I might be a little late on this thread but thats life. I lined the rear tub and tailgate in my 99 TJ and it worked great. The herculiner will stay on your skin for a while. I'd recommend latex or rubber gloves. The roller that comes with the kit SUCKS A FAT ONE. I'd recommend using a sponge brush or regular cheap paint brush, rolling it just didn't work for me. The finish is rough but thats kinda the idea. If your looking for an even tone/texture this isn't the product you want. Be sure to sand the clear coat off to allow the liner to adhere correctly.

2 Door, probably. 4 door prob not. I had about 1/4 gallon left after 2 coats on my CJ 5.

Like someone mentioned above, WEAR GLOVES as this stuff gets everywhere. I have no advise on the roller, I just used the foam one and it worked good.

Also, make sure sure use some fans and proper ventilation, or you'll get high

with Herculine the prep is far more important than the application. If you don't scuff and clean well it will start to flake off. Chit fades badly too.

My advice is prep prep prep...

Wear gloves and clothes you don't care about ruining.

Throw out that roller, it sucks. Go to the dollar store and buy some shit paint brushes and use them to slather it on.

I used a gallon on my unlimited and had some left over, and I did 2 coats. As for smooth, herculiner has particles of something in it that makes it rough.

It STINKS, bad! Do it outside on a breezy day. And it will fade over time, but I am still happy with it and consider it my fav mod for the money spent!!

Oh yeah, don't forget to take the floor drain plugs out before you start!!!

i did the full inside of my 2dr. one gallon was more then enough (i did get the little bucket too cause i didnt know) but yeah its plenty be aware that the inside temp is likely going up about 10* i leave off doors and top most of the time so its not a big effect and its common sense really but i just hadnt considered it.
