It broke at the ear. When I pulled the shaft, I inspected it for damage at the splines and there was none. Since the shaft is floating, you don't have to worry about the balance, so if you have a locker, you now have a 3x4.

That makes sense, I've known some people in the past who didnt bother with the inspection part and paid for it

Default The problem is

Even tho the esp is turn off on 4lo or by holding the bottom in 4 hi
the traction control is still active in all modes. however when the rubicon axles are locked it dosnt really need it all tires will be going the same speed making the cpu very happy. Now take and axle out and the one tire isnt spining the same speed causing the traction control to come on to a point were it kills the engine. Pulling the fuse kills all functions of eps and tracion control giving you that ummf. Dumb i know but traction control is on all the time lower leves when esp is off tho turning the esp off wont turn it off unless you pull fuse.
I belive jeep kept it on so some poeple dont cook there open diffs (bds or limmited) up. Thats why are back brakes wear out so fast its them or the diff

Another observation... there has been many discussions around this engine compared to the old I6 4L in the TJs. I bet if you pulled the EPS fuse and compard jeeps (TJ vs JK), all discussions around this engine would be silenced. The difference in initial acceleration with vs without the ESP fuse is alarming.

I think everyone should just try it. Don't do anything dumb, but accelerate quickly from a stand still with and without the ESP fuse and report back to this thread. I am telling you, that ESP really limits your ability to manage the power from standstill.

holding the button down versus disconnecting it all together just is not the same. I have tried it both ways and there is a major difference. Yes, I did get a check engine light when it happened. But, the system will correct itself within a day.

not to mention when you pul that fuse its going to throw several codes....thats not only the ESP fuse, if i remember correctly its also the ABS and Stability fuse, so thats 3 codes every time you pull it, if you do it too often i think youll get a check engine an have to go get flashed...
I put in a switch and never get codes. Throw the switch, it kills abs, bas, esp. It's more like an interrupt, resets itself after you turn off the ignition. I guess if you left the switch in interrupt mode, you might get get codes, but if you set it back reg, no codes.

funny thing about the Mercadies ESP... the sability control can be turned on an off from the switch on the dash... however the traction control part of it never turns off. It's just the way they programed it.

but when you pulled that axle shaft you left an open hole for your axle lube to escape, and for contamination and crap to get in...without the ability to plug it up, I wouldn't do this, you risk destroying your front diff
