I carry a zip lock bag (1qt), stick a red rag in the bag and zip it. then I tie a string to the bag. I use the old axle or a long stick and ram that bag down into the hole. It seals it perfectly. Best part is once you fix or replace the axle, all you have to do is pull on the sting and out pops the bag with the rag. Throw the bag away and keep the rag for your next break. (not that I have done this before)
