it depends what you want to do! I did about 4 coats of redrock and then 4 coats of dupli color engine enamel (clear). then its needs to cure for a week and i'm gonna spray 4 more coats of clear again. if your just gonna leave it on the axle just sand it down and choose your color, i just want to make sure when the rocks hit it the paint will last. I've got some time before its going on so i want it perfect, good luck

did mine with red bbq paint..... i no it doesnt get too hott, but better safe then sorry
