Default Hood flutter tip

Lets face it... Probably 90% of all forum members removed the front air dam because its ugly and for anyone who actually wheels their rig knows it would get ripped off eventually anyways. That being said most of us now get hood flutter mostly on windy days while driving on the highway.... A little tip for ya. Go out and get yourself a set of Drake hold downs to replace the factory plastic ones. This 100% stopped all hood flutter for me. For a little over 100 bucks the problem is solved.... And they look awesome. Install takes about 30 min with basic tools. Give em a try!

Daystar hood latches will also work and will absolutely stop all hood flutter. $25.00... I had a set on my 08. So far on my 2012 even with the air dam removed the OEM latches are working like they should.

Let's face it, you've wasted some money. Removing the spring in the front of the hood solved the problem for me!! Great mod for free

I completely agree. I actually bought both but installed just the new tie downs first to see if that worked before I cut a hole in my hood. That being said I have a Daystar hood latch that i dont need. Anyone in the boston area that wants it can come pick it up for 10 bucks.

Removing my spring worked aswell for about 95 percent of the time. There's still a few gusts going by semis on a windy day that will make mine move a little

I went with the Rampage locking hood latches and I have been pleased. Not plastic or rubber. Can lock them up for extra security. No flutter at all and it is windy as hell here in Colorado Springs. Most of my drive to-and-from work on I25 involves my Jeep being tossed around.

how does taking the spring out help? it seems like the spring would hold the hood up against the latches. then it would be looser without the pressure, making it worse. i guess not, or people wouldn't be doing it, but it seems weird to me. can anyone explain it to me?

I took my spring out! No more flutter!
The spring is pushing the hood up and the latches are forcing it down thus causing a tiny flutter

it seems like the spring ought to make it tighter then? idk, i also haven't had flutter issues yet so maybe thats why i don't get it. i wonder why they put it there in the first place?
