hood locks
this is probably gonna sound stupid, but i hate the fact that the hood bounces when a semi passes me on the highway. i have the under hood lock in the front, but it doesn't stop the play at all. My old 02's hood didn't bounce as much with the same hood clips. are they making them out of cheaper rubber now?.. is there an upgrade, locking or not that is black, or just not chrome?
thanks

New Jeep and observed this hood flutter I've read about for the first time yesterday - interstate speeds into a headwind. Downright scary I was concerned it'd fly off. Paranoia on my part I'm sure but nerve wracking. I've read the Daystar's tend to crack/break in cold climates?
There was just another thread on this the other day. Varying opinions stated that the Daystar hood latches worked great, and others stated after time they stretched just like the stock ones do. Another option is the Drake Off Road hood latches (much more expensive at $130 a set), but there wasn't a negative opinion on them except for the fact that they only come in silver. They're made of metal so noone stated that they stretched at all. Wish I had the thread link because someone did a good paint job on the drake's and painted them black. Looked great...I will be buying Drakes when I replace my 08's.
Searched on it - I think I'll try the zip tie fix first. I think -some- flex is needed just not as much as they have from the factory. Likely that the excessive flex causes the fatigue cracking people get and limiting the range with a zip tie to prevent excessive flutter seems like a very logical and efficient fix. I actually zip tied a throttle linkage on one of my diesel trucks (ball and socket link) and it held up for about 80,000 miles so ... I have a lot of faith in zip ties.

i got some nice big black heavy duty zip ties and they do the trick. Theyre barely noticeable too which is nice because you dont want people to know you need to fix your brand new jeep with zip ties. Theyre kind of pricey at about $1.50 for the set, but they do the job.
