Hood mounted light bar beam
Hey folks, any input on say a 20" hood mounted light bar? How is the beam pattern? Useful at all, or does the hood block too much? Thinking of a flood style light for actual night wheeling.
Thanks
Thanks
And if you do mount forward facing lights on the a pillars or hood they should be spotlights to reduce glare. Spotlights also throw better (their primary function) when mounted higher up. Conversely flood lights work well lower down on the bumper to reduce glare off the hood.

Ive got a 20" Black Oak Combo bar on the grill and its been awesome. I did a quick run through the pine barrens on my way down to the beach and between it and the floods on the A pillar i had no issues seeing. From the front of the vehicle it looks like the hoop on the bumper would block the light, but that isnt an issue at all and im very pleased with the pattern/performance of the location
Every time I see someone with a hood mounted light bar, I wonder this same thing. It seems that the glare would be terrible considering how close it is to the hood, and how it spreads the light. I'm not a huge fan of 50/52" bars either just due to general looks, but even they spread a lot of light on the hood from the top of the windshield. I find it really distracting. I prefer a-pillar and bumper mounted lights. I do have a couple pods mounted upside down by my rear rollbar for those few times I need to back up while night wheelin'.
I've checked out a few different configurations, and I personally do find it distracting. I think it has a lot to do with the height of the bracket and the color of your paint. I prefer it mounted on the bumper, but to each his own!
