Default Hood vent fan addition?

I live and crawl in the desert. Having recently added some hood vents, I am now considering adding a fan beneath the venting to actively dump more heat while moving slowly. The fan would be controlled via a cab switch. Please share your thoughts, experiences, etc. My hide is thick.

Seems easy enough. Bolt a small10-12 inch electrical fan to the hood and blow the hot air out the vents I'm assuming. I couldn't give any first hand knowledge as I live in the frozen north and it only gets hot for like 2 months if we are lucky.

I like the idea. I wonder if it would be better to pull air through the vent blowing down onto the engine. You wouldn't be pulling the hot air from around the manifolds up and over the engine; it would be blowing down and out the bottom. Just a thought.

I ran a 6.5 inch fan on my gen right hood vent on my 1st jeep.
It really blew out alot of heat and helped double as a driver side window defroster!

That has the potential of reducing the amount of air the regular fan can pull through the radiator.

I can't find it (not sure if it was this forum or another), but someone used a Poison Spyder louver with two small Spal fans. They're wiring was very clean and the system came on/off by thermostatic control. So nice that Robbie (from MoTech) commented on how cleanly it was done.

I'll keep looking as it's no bothering me. dang it.

I also had this idea and purchased the fans. I ran one on a direct batter connect test and checked my intake temps with the Trinity. It seemed to make almost no difference so I gave up. It must do something but it does not solve heat soak issues.

I also fitted the foam thing from the 2.8 diesel onto the intake of my 3.8 (fits perfectly) which is used to reduce intake temps on the 2.8 which is turbo charged. With my setup it made exactly 1 degree Celsius difference. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to reduce intake temps as am in a hot climate and have a supercharged 3.8.

The real difficult issue to solve is heat soak. I have the stock intake. On the highway my intake temps are 6-9 degrees Celsius above ambient. When stopped or moving slowly this rises quickly to 30-40 degrees above ambient. Even with the vent fan running this happened. It would seem to truly reduce underhood temps you need to lose the hood.

I have 3 daystar vents in the stock hood. I suspect removing the sound deadening blanket would help alot as the top of the hood is usually quite cool but it is hot underneath. Just worried I will burn the paint.

Look forward to seeing how you get on. It may make me start the project over.
