Default How bad do 35's hurt the power?

My girlfriend just bought a 2 door manual and wants to lift it up. I want to put some 35's on it but i dont want to hear her complaining about how slow it is. Ive always had V8 trucks so i havent experienced a small 6 cylinder with a big tire.......ANy insite would be great.

man I have an 08 auto 2 door and it came with 33's. Now like yourself I had never had a small v 6 with nig tires. But after about 2 weeks both me and the girlfriend shelled the 33's and got 35's. I can tell you that it's not that much difference in power. But I would chip it. Get a flaspaq or something of that soet. I am purchasing the AEV one that's like 150 on northridge 4x4 for the time being until I get the cash flow to blow 300 plus on a good chip. But it'll do what you need it to do. Corect ur speedo and put in the tire size and what not. Just something to look into. Good luck!

I drive a 2dr manual and I can tell you without reservation that there was a distinctive drop in power when i switched to 3.5" lift and 35s. I noticed it right away based on my use of the gears. I used to start out in 2nd on my stock rubi and now had to start in first.

If you want to regain the stock power feel there is one sure way to do it, regear to 4.88 or 5.13.

there is a power loss but, being that you have a manual, i think you will find it tollerable especially if you have a rubicon as they have 4.10 gears. if you don't have a rubicon but have 3.73 gears, it's still not too bad but if you have the 3.21's, well, you'll probably want to start thinking about regearing.

if you're thinking about regearing, at 35's, i personally would recommend going 5.13's. it is a bit on the high side but not too bad and i can tell you that it will make your jeep feel like its got 30 extra hp. back when i was still running that setup, i was the most happiest with my power.

With 35" tires, change the current gear to 4.88 or 5.13 is the way to restore or even get stronger power.

I figured i would nee to bump the gearing up but i was trying to stay away from having to do that (my money, her car.If it was my truck that would be another story) Thinking i might just go with like a 2.5' lift and some 295/70-16 ( rolls out at a 33.4)

Her jeep is just an X and im not sure what the factory gears are.

I also have an X, but mine is a 2007, in that year if you got the tow package you got 4.10s. If your unsure you could request a build sheet from jeep. Hope this helps

I have a feeling its got 3.73's or 4.10's....First gear is really low. You can pretty much start in second in it. Ill call jeep with the vin tomorrow to get the build

i have a 4 door manual rubi on 35's, shes a dog but i dont mind on the road because its a jeep. I pretty much keep the overdrive off all the time even on the highway up 60. I also do alot more manual shifting with my automatic to help keep the rpms up. Like the others said you will do fine with you having a manual. I have no plan on regearing anytime soon. i will wait till something blows up then i will regear to 5.13's. My biggest complaint is wheeling now in 4 hi, it has no stones what so ever, i will post up on obstacle floor it and it will just rev at 3k and not spin tires. So i just wheel in 4 low now.

I recently switched from 34" tires to 37", and the power difference wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I have a 6 speed with 3.73's.

6th gear saw minimal use before, now it gets no use at all. Other than that, not really a big change.
