How bad are MTs in ice snow?
Another Calgarian here. I swapped out the stock tires on my Sahara for Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos. Had no complaints last winter on snow or ice. They aren't a mud tire, but an all terrain tire with plenty of siping; they have a good looking and aggressive tread pattern. Judge for yourself: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/BigPic...ler+A%2FT+Revo

I drove the rubi ctock all winter last year, and we had a record snowfall year up here in Montreal. Honestly, compared to my locked diff TJ on 32", the UNlimted Rubi did super well. It really is very good in winter, and as far as ice, any car/ tire is bad on ice. It's more the way you drive and are aware of your surroundings then anything.
Here in Quebec we are legislated to have dedicated winter tires this year and I'm going to go with the BFG KO's. Although the Silent Armor looks like a good choice, I prefer the slightly more aggresive thread pattern on the BFG.
I am running the Cooper Discoverer STs, didn't have snow last winter, but did have them in icy conditions and I liked how they handled better than th BFG KOs I have had on previous vehicles. Plus these are a little more agressive for off roading and are especially better in the mud.
I ran the stock BFG MT's all last winter and had no issues at all in snow, even on ice they did pretty well. I only had to chain up once and that was to get to my buddies cabin through 2 feet of snow. I have a nice set of 35" KM2's to try this year!
And FYI, new law in Quebec... The snow flake is not necessary...
