I was looking at mine tonight and luckily I don' have these issues yet.
I did come up with a few questions though.

Observations:
Obviously the drive shafts get quite hot
If you do a lot of wheeling in mud/clay these things are getting coated.....not even mentioning the day to day exposure to the elements.

So as we all know......Both heat and contaminents play havoc on rubber by helping to dry them out. The dryer they get the more prone to cracking/failing. With the lifts now putting more stress because of the new driveshaft angles, I would think they would be even more prone to cracking.

With this in mind, does anyone think it's worth finding some kind of lubricant(non petroleum since they will also dry rubber out) to help protect these from drying out, or just to extend their life.

Maybe something like dialectric grease, etc.

Thought/opinions

Went to the dealer today. Being replaced free of charge (aka Warranty). No questions asked.
I know that this will happen again but this will buy some time to sace up some funds.

Good dealer! You'll have to keep that one!

Do you still have problems if you add a 3" lift and never go off-roading? If so, I'll make the changes up front and replace both DSs.

Yup, the driveshafts for the JK are just poor design. Some have gone out in just a few hundred miles after lift an others, like me have put almost 10,000 miles on the lift and the driveshaft is starting to go.

BTW, Wayolife... are you running stock driveshafts? I thought you had quite a bit of miles on yours. Being that you wheel yours pretty good, how has yours held up?
Hey Rubidonn, I apologize for not seeing your post sooner. Regarding your question, yes, I am still running stock drive lines and I now have close to 16,000 miles on my JK and 12,000 of those have been with my Full Tracion 3" lift on it. And, since I work from home, a vast majority of those have been put on driving out to the trail and wheeling it hard. So, far, they seem to be holding up real well but then, I do have an unlimited and as you know, the rear shafts on them are quite long. I will have to say however that I have just started to see a bit of grease on the side of my gas tank right next to where the CV joint is and I can only suspect that the boot might be compromised. Need I say, a new shaft may be in the works for me in the near future.

I have a 2dr and a 4' Teraflex lift. The rear shaft lasted about 3k miles. Then died very fast. My front was ok but I choose to replace both with custom shafts made here in Salt Lake City. If the Lift Installer had adjusted my pinion agle better it would have lasted longer. AThat angle is a huge factor in longevity. I did not notice the poor angle he left it at when he finished my lift. I wont be going back there for any other work. Good Luck

Two weeks ago I destroyed my 2nd factory DS and today the dealer I bought the jeep from sent me a brand new JE 1350 shaft for the rear. I will be installing it tonight anyone have any tips for the install?
