The only time I reallly notice a lack of power is when I get out of my wifes Titan crew cab. My company truck is a F-150 crew cab with the small V-8. With a Tru flow xdi cai the Jeep is close enough to keep me happy. It will never compare to her truck and as long as I don't drive hers I never know the difference.

In all seriousness, the JK is underpowered for a SUV in it's class/size. I wouldn't trade my Rubicon for anything else on the market, but the "competitor" vehicles (though not up to the cut in off-road performance), do offer much more power and faster acceleration (not counting the I-5 H3). Most JK owners spend more time on concrete than slickrock, so increasing performance does become an area of concern. It's no fun to get on the interstate and wonder if you'll have a semi up your a$$ before reaching the speed limit.

As for me.....I expected the Jeep to be a performance slug from the day I bought it. For me, it's part of owning a Jeep. I drive my Camaro once a week to cure the power woes BUT...... there is a Hemi swap already planned once the last payment for the Jeep is mailed to the bank
Yup, I know what you mean I drive a mustang GT to work most of the time and when I get in the Jeep I can tell a big difference. The thing that bothers me is all these people lifting there jeeps and putting 35's on it and not regearing and then talking about how they have no power and blaming the motor! I am really happy with mine with 5:13's, 6 speed, CAI, etc.. and 35's I never worry about how fast I can go because it is not a problem.

By the way for all the guys with low mile's on there JK's, when I got above 30,000 miles on my 2007 JK the power seemed to just get better and better!

aside from gearing why would anyone want so much power/torque in a jeep I mean it doesn't make the jeep more capable.... except for more capable of breaking chit

Well to answer your question that brings to mind the question the Jeep engineers were asked when they put two hemi's in the Jeep Hurricane.

MEDIA "why would you put two Hemis's in a Jeep hurricane?" They responded "BECAUSE WE CAN". I love that one!!

On a side note there are a lot of times that my YJ with the 5.9L did much better then some of my buddies with smaller motors but with the same basic setup.

I disagree with the regear replies. 31.5 tires are not much bigger than stock.

Try the Airaid cool air intake. It made a huge difference in my 07 and my wife's 08.
It really improved the drivability and eliminated the constant gear seeking downshifting on the mountain roads.

It was worth the $200 (twice, once for each Jeep)

Next weekend I'm installing the TBI spacer.

Are you the original owner? If so, isn't your gearing covered by the lifetime power-train warranty? Or did you invalidate it with mods?

I think the reference was to 315/70R17s (34"), not 31.5" tires. Looking at the image posted, they certainly look larger than 32" stock tires that would come with a Sahara.

That said, and guessing that there are 3.73s currently installed, there isn't any way outside a supercharger or hemi to get where the set of gears will. The increased rpms from 4.88s at highway cruise speeds will land him about 25 additional hp to the wheels, and you can't get there with a tube and a filter.

An Airaid CAI isn't going to make a huge difference. Nominal at best, and to really get something out of it you need a programmer that's going to react differently to any intake manifold pressure and any intake air temperature differences. The stock PCM is going to adjust the gains of fatter/cooler air away by adjusting the throttle blade. In the end and without a programmer, your gains are pretty much going to be limited to some better throttle response when running anything below WOT.

As for the TBS, a nominal amount of throttle response to be gained and absolutely nothing outside a couple hundred rpms on a port injected engine. In other words, save your money.
