Two pieces of garbage for the price of one is still garbage.

Solids are not garbage. They get beat hard here on desert rocks several times a week and not a drip one. My only issue is the bolts get flattend but the cover is still good as new. Several of my desert rat buddies run them and no complaints.

The grinding deal is just to accomodate the Rubicon's switch that is not an issue on other D44's and just takes matter of minutes.

sorry for sounding mean here but...........

If you can't grind off a little excess metal, see why you are doing it, and understand this does nothing to undermine the structural integrity you should not be working on your jeep past installing a bobble headed doll and/or chrome pieces.

step away from the jeep, step away from the jeep.

The grinding is a simple way to make thesolid d44 covers accommodate the JK, sincethe covers were designed before the jk came out. Really it is a heavy, thick piece of metal, and grinding off alil bit is a reasonable way to make them fit the jk Rubi. I've smashed mine into rocks lots of times, with no issues. If you don't want to grind, really, go pay twice as much for the ARBs or some other cover.

your ignorance does nothing for this thread. The covers have been around for years and have been used and beat on comp rigs that you could only dream of putting your JK through.

The jk d44 is the same as the previous models, if you want them to Jack the prices if the covers up, I'm sure they would spend the money and have new casts made for the JK. Must jeepers love the chance at grinding on something

Oh well, if you want to think I am ignorant than that is your choice. I just like to install things on my Jeep that work. For the price those covers cost it is my opinion that there shouldn't be any grinding required. Is it that much for the company to say "oh these people have JK's let's take the 5 mins and grind it off here to accommodate the customer who has paid for our product"? I'm not debating the strength of the covers I am stating my opinion on the company's solution to a problem they KNOW happens. I am sure if someone happened to slip a hand or catch the grinder blade on the diff cover and ruin it the company wouldn't be so quick to replace it.

Once they sell out of the remaining SOLID D44 covers then they plan to cast the new covers with the new company name which will not have to be grinded to accomodate oem lockers.

Of course they will go back to normal price when the new ones are available.

We've beat up on a set for over a year with no issues...

Did you even look at the site? There is a clear reference for JK Rubicon owners

Not to mention the covers also come with the below instructions in the box.

http://www.solidaxle.com/PDF/44_Rubicon_Fitment.pdf

http://www.solidaxle.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=33&idcategory=7#details

60 seconds of grinding to save $60 seems like a non brainer decision

Default not just Rubicon!

Rubicons come stock with factory lockers, but factory lockers can be options on other models like mine.

They should be selling 2 models -

A) one for no lockers/old style
and
B) one that works with or without lockers/new style...

...until they run out of model A's. then only sell model B's, not make customers grind it after purchasing! plus - what happens if you miss this pdf, you/the customer damage your locker???

IMO - that's just lazy and poor customer service!
