Default How to tell which 15" alloy wheels will fit my '12???

Got a lead on some 15" alloys that my brother-in-law is giving me. They are Desert Rattler Tracker II from Desert Rat. They are a 15x10. How can I tell if they will fit my '12 before I get them from him? If they won't fit my rig, I'm going to tell him to sell them locally (he's in CA and I'm in MS). I emailed Desert Rat and they said they recommend 17" wheels for the '12 wrangler. How can I be sure these will or will not fit? Are there some measurements I can get to see?

Thanks,
Kevin

most alloy wheels will NOT fit on a JK or, a least, not without doing some grinding on your brake calipers and even with that, it's too tight for my taste. i would pass on them but, that's just me.

Thanks for the update. Will prob pass on them. Out of curiosity, what about steel wheels? Is it still a case by case basis?

most of the common 15" steel wheels will clear the calipers.

Actually, it's most steels won't fit without some grinding. Alloys clear left and right.

I have 15" alloys and they fit with no issue. They are 15x8 with 3.75" back spacing. For a 15x10, you will want even less to avoid rubbing

Look at the back of the wheels you have and the backspacing should be stamped on the hub. It also doesnt hurt to do a test fit with no tires

edit: just checked desert rats website. Says they are 3.75" back spacing. They should fit but it will be close with the wheel weights

What's the magic number I should be looking for then? smaller (less than) or larger (greater than) than 3.75" e.g. 3.5 or 4.5?

Thanks,
Kevin

You want 3.75 or less. You will be perfectly fine with that. You can mount them up with no problems at all

OK, follow-up...just talked with the Brother-in-law and he hasn't even purchased them yet. He was going to get them for me for a late birthday/early Christmas present without me knowing. So, he has the option of getting the 15x10 with 3.75 backspace or the 15x8 with 3.5 backspace. Which would be a better wheel? I want to ensure these fit before I tell him to get them for me...he's buying the wheels, I'm buying the tires...

Thanks,
Kevin
