How would you start?
Good to see this bring some conversation, appreciate the opinions.
I am always looking for deals on the Rubi, have two salesmen with a spec sheet looking for any already built that meet my desires that I could negotiate a little more on then a freshly ordered vehicle. However I'm only interested in new because our bank offers an extra year on the loan for new which makes a substantial difference in the value of my upgrades to keep payment where I want.
When the day comes that I have parts on hand and a jeep to turn bolts on I will make a build thread and post step by step. I expect to start before august.
I will be doing all the work shy of mounting and balancing the tires lol, I'll be doing the gearing, and if I end up with the sport, the axle assembly swap

Since the resale value is something you put stock in, why not buy used? Especially since you won't be keeping the axles and such, there are plenty of soccer mom rubis out there to buy that haven't left pavement.
Yeah but sometimes you can pick up a gently used, maybe even a couple year old Rubi for about half or a little more then the price of a new one. Maybe even drive it as is until you can save up some funds to do your build. Should substantially lower your your payments and not to mention the all interest you would fork out to pay back the debt. But it sounds like you have already got your mind set on a new Rubicon so good luck with your build.

Well a new loaded 4 door Rubicon sells for anywhere around $45-48K in Canada. I picked up a 3.5 year old one at the time with 36,000 kms (20,000mi) in a private sale for $24,500. Guess I got lucky...
Wish I could grab a new one for $35K!
