Hurst shift knob
i didnt have to cut a thread on the stalk, just gently twisted it on and it cut its own threads.
the threaded balls have brass inserts in them (the xfer case doesnt, it just tightens down w/ set screws like on the adapter pictured).
the xfer case ball adapter was built into the ball (so it doesnt really show).
heres a couple of pictures that might help you -
remember i powdercoated the adapter (normally its 'natural' aluminum color)...
I wanted it to blend in w/ the interior more.
there are several diff size "nylon" inserts provided in the kit (so you can take up any rattle/slack needed), ive included a photo of one...they just slip in the inside of the adapter, they also prevent marring of the shifter stalk.

here's a picture of mine threaded on the shift stalk w/out the adapter (i may never have to install the adapter).
Im still considering a switch to BLACK w/ White lettering...but for now this is what i bought.

Now you CAN create a threaded end for your Jeep JK manual shift lever for under $10 in under 10 minutes...this is how I did it:
