Default hydralic winch vs electrical winch

I am considering about getting a winch now.

Seems most people are using electrical winch, but I personally hesitate to
buy one because it suck battery out quick. I currently prefer hydralic winch
since it seems lighter, more durable and most importantly, does not suck
too much from battery.

The only drawbacks I can find are:

1. your engine must run when you use hydralic winch. But I seem most jeepers
run the engine while using electric winch. So I guess it is OK

2. it requires fluid from power steering, so I guess the wiring work will be
more than electrical one

Any thoughts, suggestion, correction, suggestion?

hydraulic winches can cause serious injury/damage if not properly used.... they just keep pulling and pulling and pulling

I won't run a PTO due to the lines necessary to run it, and the engine has to be running to use it. I just don't care to deal with that myself. I'm not even sure the stock power steering pump kicks out enough to handle a PTO winch?

Buy the electric.... Leave your jeep running if your worried about the battery.... Or get a nice optima for winching. Good luck.

ya, a yellow top Optima battery is the way to go. $200. They are designed to be drained and recharged over and over.

if you have rolled on to your side, you can't use your own winch to right your self if you have a hydrolic.

The hydralic winches I've seen work were far too slow. Most guys just begged for their buddies to use their electrics due to the speed of recovery.
