Default Ideal Tire Width

Fairly new to the Jeep scene. Wondering what the ideal, or best, tire width size is to put on an 18x9 wheel? Looking to put 2" lift by coil spring spacers and wanted to put some bigger tires & wheels on as well.

Tire manufacturers will list the recommended rim width for each tire size. For a 9" rim, a 12.5" wide tire will work. I would recommend going to a smaller diameter rim as tires are cheaper. Also you'll need to get the correct backspaced rims (4.5" is the standard) as to ensure your new tires don't rub your jeep.

So you'd recommend going with a 17x9 or 17x8.5 wheel?

Lots of great 17x9 wheels out there. I'll be running 11.5" wide 33" M/Ts on 17x9" wheels in a few weeks.

Smaller diameter rim. So a 17x9. Some 15" rims fit the JK as well.

Alright, answer me this one. I want to do Nitto tires on it. If I were to do a 17x9 wheel, what would be the best size of Nitto Terra Grapplers for it?

From 285 to 315/70-17 is common.

Thanks a lot. I'm planning on a 285.

I put 285/75/17 Terra Grapplers on my JKUR after a 2" budget boost. They've been a great tire so far, and I have no complaints. Some say they wear fast, but of everyone I know who have put them on Jeeps (not large trucks), they wear fine. I have 10,000 miles on mine so far and they look brand new (I do a 5-tire rotation every 3,000 miles).

That's good to hear! I've been set on Terras for quite awhile now.
