Default Infamous 'chirp'

Ozjeep posted this on another forum:

Posted: Fri Jun 29, 2007 4:37 am Post subject: Easy fix for 6 speed chirp when shifting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

G'Day this is my first post on this forum I hope someone finds it usefull.
I decided today to have a poke around under my jeep to see if I could locate the source of this aggravating "Chirp".
Well I reckon I have found it . On mine it was a rubber gearbox breather hose rubbing on the back of a sandwiched foam rubber shifter to under body seal.
When I moved the rubber hose against the seal to simulate torque shift I heard the familiar Chirp.
Would have posted a Pic but havent worked out how yet.
Test driven all day with some hard shifting and no more "Chirp"
I know it seems a bit too easy considering what some have been through but the Chirp I have experienced is gone.

Can anyone tell me what he is referring to? "rubber gearbox breather hose rubbing on the back of a sandwiched foam rubber shifter to under body seal"? Also, I do not see what the fix was...I replied to his post, no answer yet...if you can tell what this refers to, would someone with the chirp check it out and see if this is a fix? Thanks.

It was too good to be true. I found the rubber line in question, and zip tied it away from the 'foam sandwich' exactly as described in the post...it made no difference at all, squeak/chirp is still there exactly as before. The only way anyone will ever be able to pin down what's making this noise is to be under the JK while it is under load as on the street, I don't see how that is possible...
