Doesn't sound like a bad idea. You get the benifit of knowing the gears are good. Changing the fluid after break in should hurt either.

I just did that on my rig friday. It cost me $25 an axle and I supplied the gear oil I wanted. Def worth it to me. Some places do it for free. It really is not needed unless there are noises or chucks of metal on the magnet. The main reason I did it was to make sure if something went wrong I did everything exactly the way superior said, using the gear oil they reccomended. If the problem is labor, they had a second chance to check it all out. I think either way... I am covered! Do it man!!! Don't give yourself the possibility of ending up on the side of the road saying "I shoulda got those cecked". Just my 2 penies.

I deal with slightly different gearboxes (helicopter), but every time we rebuild one, we run it then inspect.

By all means, if it is done properly the first time, the inspection should just be a confirmation of this. However, every now and then, you get weird patterns due to manufacturing problems, small misalignments, etc.

As long as you won't be gouged on the price, the inspection is a good idea.
