Default shock boots a must?

So are shock boots necessary? Are they going to get dirty and break without them?

Thanks!

i know friends with trucks that run and mud without them and they still work but i know you run a better risk and getting like sand and small rocks and grit in the actually shock which break seals and will damage them

I was wondering the same. I just put on my 4" lift and dual SS and no shock boots. I know there are O-rings or seals of some sort. I know dirt would be a bad thing. I saw shock boots for sale in a mag at home, will find out which one it was. They sold them in singles for like $5 a piece. Will get that info for you tomorrow night and post it.

I think they are a must, but my buddy says there only good for holding moisture and causing rust to form on the tube.

I would say no they are not neccesary but for $5 a peice why not use them. I bought some when I did my lift, $20 well spent.

Where did you get them and what do they look like? I'm going to put on a 4" Rough Country and was wondering if I needed them.

I have used them before. They are great at holding dirt and moisture. I would not run them on my Jeep anymore.

it also depends on the type of shock. I recently ordered rough country's 4" lift, the salesman said that shocks will not accept boots and are not necessary on them.

Absolutely right.

I would absolutely NOT run them. For as much stuff as they keep out, they will keep stuff in. The wipes on your shock sleeves are designed to keep the grime off the piston. Any decent shocks will do the job without boots. I say $5 or not, do not use them.
