Default Interior Panel Cost -- AARRGGH

Ok, so i was fooling around with the interior panel below the steering column. Attempting to put in a Home Link remote so i could access both my and my parents garage doors. Well Turns out the panel was a little too thick for the homelink. Long story short i ruined the panel. Called the dealer to order a new one. THey told me this thing costs $182.00. HOLY S$HITTZ!!! For a $0.30 plastic panel! I told them i would wait and find one in a dump somewhere down the road. I just could not believe what DC is trying do with this... ANyway moral of the story is not to be stupid like me.

If your going to try and mod something in your jeep get the replacement cost FIRST! Then justify if its worth modding. At least you can't really see this panel.

That's too bad about the replacement cost. I think its still a great mod. Try covering the panel with some matching material or neoprene if you have seat covers.

Well i'm kinda lucky because if you look in your JK, You really can't see this panel because it is low and facing kinda downwards. So i think i will leave it be for a while and not worry about it. I think the best part about the mod was i had it wired into the switched pwr outlet. So i can leave the jeep topless in the driveway and you still can't open the garage door without the jeep key.

Well, not to hijack the thread....ok, it IS to hijack the thread.

[rant] The cost that DCX or any (auto) manufacturer charges for replacement parts is ridiculous. period. And I DON'T want to hear about "burdened" cost, and "limited" market, and all the excuses that accountants want to put up. Been there (a manufacturer) and done that. Once the cost of the vehicle development and build has been amortized there is NO reason to keep the replacement parts cost that high. Its too much the bully in the ball field syndrome on cost. Just because they can (keep the cost high. after all where ELSE you going to get it?) and they will sue the cr*p out of anyone who manufactures similar replacement parts. They don't want the competition. They've been taking pages from the movie maker's guide about how to load costs (burden) on a movie (item) just to prevent it from showing a profit (lower cost). [/rant]

Well, I've hijacked enough. I'm sure everyone has there DCX parts horror story. I like the suggestion about covering with neoprene or maybe slaughter another of the right colored nauga bird for the naugahyde............

is it possible to use bondo or use some form of epoxy to fill the holes and then paint it out to match?

Better yet, make sure you know what you are doing.

Some poor guy on the forum wrecked his jeep the other day Maybe he could hook you up. I'm pretty sure it is going to be totaled.

The grille part I needed was taken out by a flying stone and the other parts had been sand blasted by all the mileage.
Just bought Mr Grille billet inserts to help protect both our Jeeps rads and grilles.
