I agree i was looking at this set up but now am debating two 5 gallon jerry cans and the universal mount. Just gott make sure my cargo carrier can hold the weight....

I hear ya, definitely a bit pricey. However, it's something you'll always have and once you have the initial setup you'll have tons of options going forward. Just giving you my two cents on what would work for the original poster's needs.

Wow...that really blocks the view of the brake lights from the rear. I mean the 3rd brake light is nice and all, but it's not a replacement for normal brake lights in full view. It may not be legal in all places like this.

Unless you're running two cans on each side of a 40 inch tire, like the guy in that pic, I wouldn't worry about that.

I think it would still cover a fair bit of view even with 35's. Our local jeep club had a recent discussion with our local law enforcement and they were told that if the jerry cans were to obstruct even half the view of the brake lights, it would be technically illegal. It's not likely that they would actually hand out tickets for that though, but from a safety standpoint, obstructing your brake lights in any way is not really a good idea. I will be going with the Rock Hard mount for my XHD tire carrier. I have the Blitz can already, just waiting on the mount to get here, but this is what it will look like eventually...

(sorry, I don't know who's jeep this is, but I hope you don't mind me using it for inspiration..)

As you can see it rides far enough up an over the brake lights to not really cause an issue. I like the RotoPax though, but I'm going with a more traditional look for my Jeep and plan to stick with the old-style metal cans.

You can get the Rockhard mounts from Northridge4x4. That's where I ordered mine from.
