Here's the requirements for a stage 2 chip...
Stage 2-Designed for the performance enthusiast, the Stage 2 features more aggressive programming to make the most horsepower and torque available. Fuel and timing curves are extensively modified for peak performance and drivability. Requires use of 91 octane fuel, 180 degree thermostat and free flow exhaust. Also works well with aftermarket intake systems, mass air sensors, TBI spacers, etc.
what 180 degree thermostat do you all recommend? and does my magnaflow cat-back exhaust qualify for the "free flow exhaust"?

I can't remember that last time I changed out a thermostat, must have been on my 78 firebird years ago, so I don't even know who manufacturers them anymore, but as long ass you get a quality unit it should not matter, and yes your magnaflow exhaust is a free flow exhaust.
One thing I don't see in your signature is a cold air intake. Free flow exhaust works better when you have more air coming through the engine which means pulling more air through your intake and pushing it through your exhaust, so you may benefit by not only using the jet stage two, but getting some more air into the engine.

Do you really need the thermostat?!
I have the Magnaflow and AFE CAI, they work great together. I was thinking Jet II or the Unichip.... Thoughts between the two?!
does anyone know the price differences off hand?
Cheers,

I would be curious about the difference between a Jet II and a Unichip? I am just adding a cai, with headers and exhaust to follow.
I wasn't planning on adding a different thermostat - is that required? How is it different than what we already have?

You don't "need" a new themostat but for a few bucks you should get one. It allows the coolant to flow through the engine at 180 degrees instead of 195 or whatever. That in turn helps keep the engine a little cooler, which is a good thing. If I remember right look for a Robert Shaw thermostat at Autozone. I have run one for years with no problems.
