JK Build from Scratch, where to begin?
Hey folks, first time posting. Well im planning on doing a Jk build in the near future as soon as i sell my current rig.
I currently have a 2007 Toyota FJ cruiser. 6inch rough country lift, procomp extreme mt on 18x9 American racing thug wheels, fab fours front bumper, warn m8000, dual battery, full exhaust, cb, custom stereo, and a few more mods. Ive done all the work myself, worked as a mechanic for a little while so i have a limited understanding of this stuff, but i am very capable of building and modifying stuff.
Why am i getting rid of the FJ? Lets just say, i hate IFS and its been nothing but a big pain in the arse. Gone through 4 cv axles in less than 6 months, had the front differential replaced, blew a wheel hub, etc. Ive only been able to go on one true off roading expedition (aside from the normal everyday trail use around my parts), the reason i haven't gone on more is because it breaks from just normal driving, not even on the trail.
Sooo, I'm moving forward and going with something that i know can handle what i do to it.
I haven't purchased a JK yet, but have been planning it out for about a month. I just want to find out what others would do in my shoes.
(Money is not an issue, the build will take place over time)
This will be a daily driver, with its main use being on the beach and some old fire trails.
First: Which JK should i get? X, Sahara or Rubi. (I will definitely go stick)
Im leaning towards the Rubi just because of the axles, i don't want to have any more breaking problems with inferior parts. Where would be the best place to start?
I will be putting on aev 17inch pintler wheels with Nitto Terra grapplers, so they are good on road and decent off road.
My ideas: Ive looked around quite a bit and im stuck between 3 inch lift with 35x12.5, or a 4 inch with 37x13.5. I'm leaning towards Teraflex or a Full Traction lift? Pro's/ Con's? Additional parts consideration for the lift? What would be the most sound setup for either lift? What problems would arise from either lift style?
Any insight will be appreciated!

Well, its mainly beach and fire trails, i would love to be taking trips more often and doing more with it. I'm leaning towards the Rubi, id rather have something that is built a little stronger so there's less of a chance of problems.

IMO, I'd look for a used one with low miles. You'll save some cash that you can put towards that long arm
To make the cheapest build-start, just nab an X package and tear off the axles, drop in a hemi, drop in a secondary transfer case, some sort of air system (compressor or CO2), huge shoes, bumpers with tow points, rockers, skids, body armor, and go nuts on the trails!
