I like the look of the AEV bumper but I would rather have a stubby instead. I want both that's why I havent ordered one yet, still waiting. I know, as soon as I put on the AEV bumper I will catch the corner on something and fold it back until it touches the tire. Now if AEV would come out with a stubby bumper that might work?

Personally, I perfer the AEV. Granted, it is the most expensive one by the time you add the skid plate and winch mount. I think that is is a better design than others that I have looked at. I don't really like the idea of going to a stubby bumper. I, too, don't like the idea of hitting a deer or an elk (ouch) without a full width bumper.

1. It seems to mount higher on the vehicle than other bumpers, providing the best approach angle at the wheels without going to a stubby bumper. Due to the higher placement of the bumper, I believe the skid plate would be a nice feature (though it is optional) to protect all that important 'steering stuff' up under there.
2. Retaining the factory fog lights is of course an added bonus.
3. It just looks darn nice. See:

I can't agree more, not only that it will accept the Mopar Tow Bar. Papabear

PS: I already ordered this bumper, no JK but soon to have a bumper for it.

Although the AEV bumper "seems" to mount higher on the vehicle, I'm sorry to say that it hangs just as low as all the other full width bumpers when you see it in person. The only thing that is higher is where it comes up to the fenders a la euro-style. But, it is still a good looking bumper and if it works for you, all the better.

This isn't a great pic, but you can get this bumper with or without the winch cut out, with or without the fog lights, and soon a winch hoop or grill guard.

Dang. I sound like a salesman, but I'm not.

Don't forget to look at Teraflex's bumper when it starts shipping... accomodates factory fogs and a winch.

I REALLY want to see the Shorkworks bumper with fogs and winch, I think this is the route I want to go but but still can't decide...??

I try to take this rock crawling stuff as slow as possible!
Well, it has been my experience that when the obstical is big enough, your bumper will hit it well before your tire can even come to touching it. Without a full width bumper, you can edge the corner of your Jeep right up to it, plant your tire on it and climb slowly up and over it without even coming close to touching your fenders. But hey, that's just been my experience.

I do, in fact, have a clue on shipping. Let's say it will be soon - as I know they're in powder coating as we speak.
So I've heard with them and everyone else. Let's just say I'll believe it when you get yours in hand. And, if I'm wrong, I'm happy for you.

Finally, I think there is a great amount of confusion regarding the crush cans, their purpose, and why AEV is paying so much attention to them - and why other vendors should too.

Contrary to popular opinion, the primary purpose of the crush cans is not to trigger the airbag activation - but to prevent it. The crush cans are designed in such a way to absorb a certain amount of energy during a frontal impact - and to preventthis energy from being "seen" by the accelerometers that trigger airbag deployment. When a company like AEV is possessed with getting the crush cans right, it means they are trying to duplicate/match the factory programming as closely as possible. The risk with other front bumper designs is that the cans may not function properly and a minor frontal impact might trigger an erroneous air bag deployment.
So, what happens when you hit a pole or a tree at a low impact dead center of your bumper and completely missing either crush can? What then? Sorry, but I think the only reason why the crush cans were included in the factory design was so that Jeep could meet federal safety crash standards and are useful only if they get hit.

And yes, I am biased. I've had an AEV on order since SEMA.
And there's nothing wrong with that as it is a good looking bumper. The case I was trying to make to the original author of this post was information based on functionality.

meh its a jeep, we dont need air bags.

Im just kidding but I like the simple bumpers myself. I bought the LoD bumper but I do like the AEV bumper. I personally wouldn't pay that much money for a bumper this early in the game. I can't wait to see what ARB comes out with and im sure there will more bumpers than we can count in 6 months. Im gonna run the LoD for atleast a year and then maybe go with something else ...then agian I might not, we'll have to see. I just know for the money I would have spent on just the AEV bumper after skid plate and tow hooks bought me front and rear bumpers from LoD. If I was going with 35s+ I think I would have bought shrockworks. Thats just my opinion tho.

I bought the LoD and really like it. Its well made and affordable and I think looks pretty decent. I've got the powerplant which is a huge winch but tucked in the LoD bumper it does not look so overwelming. With the 2" Rustys lift installed the jeep has a nice balanced look I think.
