I'd consider a ram assist if I were tearing up steering boxes or bending drag links and whatnot, but we don't hear of too many steering woes here on the forum, do we? At least not from guys running 35 inch tires. Right?

So I understand what you're saying Goody, for example, your front wheels are tucked in a tight chute or you've got one of your front wheels wedged in the rocks and you could use a little more power at the steering wheel in order to get free?

I'm brand new to the JK scene, so I only know what I've read from this and other forums. I can do most of the things in our shop here in WI, but when we spend our winters in AZ where I do 90% of our wheeling, I don't have the facilities for repairs. I also question whether I need steering assist, but with the Redneck setup at $300 or less plus some time, it seems like nice insurance.

Maybe a PSC is in your future?

Just ordered new steering gear box last week.
I don't abuse my JK, but I do go wheeling. This is my 5th jeep I have had over the years and not once have I replaced a steering gear box. I have wheeled my past jeeps a lot harder with no problems what so ever with the steering components.
I guess it was just the luck of the draw.

I've said it in many posts, Chrysler really cheaped out on the front end on these JKs.

From the plastic ball joints to the tinker toy steering shaft and dinky tie rod ends. I have beefed up everything in my suspension save for the box and shaft.

I have been through one box and suspect I will need a new one soon. If you don't want to go PSC Hydro you can send your box to Redneck Ram and he will rebuild the box with stronger internals or he can also do hydro as well. This is probably the route I will go.

I couldn't find that mentioned on their web site. Do you have a link?
