Default JKU door armor

Anyone experimented with door armor? The only company I see that makes real door armor is fab fours and I refuse to buy their hideous products. I was thinking like 1/8” plays that will cover most of the door like up to the door handle. I chickened out on an obstacle today because of potential severe door damage. Not gonna lie, I didn’t like the fact that I backed away. I feel like if I had a little bit of protection on the doors then I would have been more courageous. Will the door support the weight? Will a 1/8” plate and the door hold up to a rock? Any ideas from the collective?

That sounds like a pretty serious obstacle. I don't know, but first impression is that armoring the door doesn't sound that good. Issues that come to mind are adding weight, how much load will it support, and will damage just occur to something else. Forming steel or aluminum, and attaching it are problems too.

Maybe use a plastic sheet material like UHMW and 3M tape for a test? 1/8" would probably form to the door.

This is why I primarily take doors off if doing serious wheelin'. I've got creases on both front doors from flying forward and hitting some shitty plastic bushwasker flares long ago, so I'm gonna say no, there's no way they will take any weight. Any sheetmetal we have is pretty dainty. Speaking of which.....I just bought some PDR tools and going to work on those creases along with a few other little dings. I've had to back away from something a time or two, primarily due to being solo and out in the wild and it was just too risky if I missed the line. It sure eats away at you. I don't blame you for not wanting to risk damage to expensive doors.

I typically have doors and top off as well but it was 110 degrees and I didn’t feel like dealing with all the wasps and other annoying flying critters along with the heat.

Only thing I've found is this: https://www.mekmagnet.com/

Obviously that won't stop anything more that pinstriping from branches and stuff of that nature. The Jeeps body is made of real thin steel and won't stand up to much when it comes to bearing weight of impacts.

Cheaper to have an investment fund and buy and fit new door skins from Dodge after you get sick of looking at dents.
