Default K and N cai install

I just recently bought a 2007 wrangler unlimited rubicon with 8600 miles. One of the mods that i want to do on it is to put a K and n cai on it, but i was looking at the installation instructions on the internet and it says that i have to remove a front engine bold that will be reused for the support hangar. also the instructions say that i would have to remove the power steering reservoir mounting bolts. when i say this i got a little bit worried. was i just over reacting or should i be a little bit aprehensive?

Very easy...nothing to worry about. Bolts screw right out and then screw right back in.

Save your money for a Superchips or something worthwhile.

The K&N Hot air intake doesn't do much but make noise.

If you want more noise and more dirt going into your intake get the K&N.

I like mine. There are other things you can do down the road to make it take in colder air. You can also order a sleeve for your filter to keep out more dust and water.

When they offer a sleeve to filter out more dirt and don't recommend it for offroad conditions, doesn't that tell you something?

Get a Snorkle!
Or like the other guys say get a reprogrammer for more power first. The CAI are just asking for trouble in dirt or water.

Thats said I'm sure the two bolts arn't anything to worry about. I found working on the 3.8L to be very easy. Any bolt will come right out and go back in just as easy. Wait till you do a mod you can't come back from like a giant hole in the hood for a snorkle. That makes you think twice.

You'll have to use a crecent wrench to unloosen and retighten the engine bolt. When i tried to remove it with a socket the pulley got in the way. And i dont think i removed the entire resivoir, i just pushed it out the way. Easy task, simple mechanics tool box and skill needed.

I would recommend the Snorkle though. I came across some bad Tornado weather (15 tornadoes in Peoria, IL) which flooded the streets with water. As i was hauling ass through the water i just then rememberd the K&N! I slowed it down to 25mph and hoped nothing got in. When i pulled over, nothing was wet at all But im not sure how much it would take to actually hit the filter. I havent seen the install for a snorkle, but im sure it'll take a little more skill than most easy bolt-on's.
