I did this to mine:

D-rings riveted to the outer lip, 8 of them in total. I also used longer bolts in the corners and spaced them out a bit so I could use stouter tiedowns for heavier stuff. So far, I have carried 2 Rubi wheels with tires, some peat moss, a few bags on a long trip etc.

I'll give the bungee cargo net a try, and maybe add some d-rings in the future. I've looked at the full cargo net deal, but honestly, I like the open feel of the jeep and that might hinder than feeling. But if my stuff ends up all over the trail and/or the interstate. Well, I might have to deal with it.
