Default lacking in sand

I just spent the day wheeling in a variety conditions and was very disapointed in how my JK did in heavy sand. I have 35's and 4.88 manual. It seemed like no mater how I used the gas on sandy hills I would just dig in. Would lockers make a difference. My old TJ Rubicon would have eaten the same terrane up. I love my JK any suggestions?
I have the 30 up front and a little scared of lockers in the 30. I am planning a trip to Rubicon trail in
July driving from Indiana and I need to change a few things.

Yea it sounds like you need to let more air out. JKU's are heavy MOFO's.

What tires are you running? Mt's arent the best in sand because they dig in and move so much sand... They have very aggressive tread patterns. Having the effect of 'digging in'. With mt's you have to air down... I recommend to about 18 lbs.

With at's you will do a bit better in sand because the tread isnt as aggressive.

Ever been to the beach and watch street pickups just run through the dry sand with no problem... Not running aggressive tread tires. Run that same line in mt's at street pressure and you can dig to china :-)

i run sand at around 3 to 5 psi on beadlocks...20 is way too much, next time air down to about 12...that should work a lot better for you without worries on a non beadlock wheel

In sand, it's all about running the lowest pressure you can get away with. I've had luck with 12 in the past.

Bingo, this is the first question I would have asked. WHen on the sand Im down to 12 - 15 psi.

Lockers would help certainly.
