Default Lange Quick Mirror II Question

So, I bought a Lange Quick Mirror II - the one that mounts on the door - from Quadratec.

This is for my 08 JK 4-door.

I haven't mounted it yet, because I have a couple of questions / concerns.

First, by putting the bracket on, my windshield screws effectively be 1/4 inch shorter, because that's the thickness of the bracket. Do I need to worry that will weaken the connection between the body and the windshield?

The kit included screws, but they are even shorter than the stock torx bolts. I thought I'd just pick up a couple of new, longer bolts, but 10 auto parts and hardward stores later, nobody carries them. (Yes, I could probably dig up a couple of non-torx, but I was on a quest...)

Second, should I be worried about scratching up my paint between the bracket and the windshield? I guess it would only matter if I took it off, but still, it's a brand new Jeep. I'd hate to scratch it up by doing something stupid. I thought about putting a thin bit of rubber between the bracket and the body, but now I just lost another 1/8 " of screw.

Anybody have one of these than can offer some mounting advice?

Thanks!

The one I bought came with longer screws to use, maybe they sent you the wrong ones? For the record, I don't like mine, it whistles like crazy over 35mph.

i have these too, not too happy with them. They whistle no matter what I do. I also have the mirrors on the vents and they help alot, considering that the Langes are ALWAYS losing their spot and flopping (not the whole thing, just the orientation of the mirror). As for scratching the paint, mine came with rubber seals to go in between the bracket and the body.

Well, if that's the way you feel you won't have much fun four wheeling. The trick is to realize that it isn't stupid until after you've done it, and then you had so much fun you don't care!

Well, there's good scratches and bad scratches... It generally depends upon the story attached.

Good scratch: I brushed a rock pulling out that stuck Hummer.

Bad scratch: I wasn't paying attention and dropped my screwdriver.

On the mirror - I just dropped a email to Quadratec to see if they have a different screw packet I should have gotten. Thanks for the advice, all.

I agree completely. My Jeep hood is pock-marked by almost tennis ball-sized hail stones. Had it occurred on the trail, I'd leave it be and have a heck of a story to tell. But, it was just parked in front of the house when the storm hit. So I'm in the market for a fix.

I gluded a piece of cloth to the bracket so I don't have to worry about scratches. Works great and not noticable. As far as the whistle, its casued by the rubber seam between the mirror and its backing. I put black silicone bead on the seam and the whistle stopped. Sounds like changing the angle is a less drastic approach.
