Question Larger Tires Without Spacers

I am looking to add slightly bigger tires to my stock Rubicon. I have seen a lot of talk about 285/70/17's with 1.5" spacers. However, aren't 265/75/17's essentially the same height? I figure if I go with the 265's, the spacers probably wouldn't be required.

Am I on the right track or not? I would prefer not to use the spacers if I don't have too. Plus, Discount Tire told me that if I had spacers they would not perform any work on my tires.

Thanks in advance!

With a bigger tire on stock rims you will need spacers. The backspacing on stock rims are roughly 6" to 6.5". I'm not possitive on that, but with the wider tire you will have rubbing issues.

Maybe try to find a set of Cragar's with at least a max. of 4.5" backspace.. These are good rims and are pretty cheap..

Are you talking about spring spacers or wheel spacers?

According to Discount Tire chart, 265/75/17 tires would be .59" taller and .39" wider than your Rubi stockers...

Not a lot of difference between the two. You wouldn't need either spring OR wheel spacers to go to that size.

On my JK - I have a 2.5" lift (Old man) that turned out to be more like 3.5" and I am running on 285*75*16.
I have another friend running on the same lift with 265*75*16.

We both use the stock rims.

Mine (285) definitely needs spacers as in extreme conditions the front tires lightly touch the swaybar.

On the 265 I didn't see that happening.

1.25" spacers should do the trick.
I hope that helps...

265/75/17 is not a commen tire size. What tires did you find in this size? Usually they are 265/70/17, or as Meni said 265/75/16 which are a little shorter than even your stockers.
