Default "THE" Lift kit thread

After seeing the large number of repetitive questions here is a thread for people to post their lift kits and input on each one. This gives a nice reference place for anyone looking to buy a lift kit to gather useful information.

Please list as much of the following as possible:
Brand and size of lift
Options in that lift.
Ease of installation and issues that came up
Special tools needed
Subjective ride quality change
Tires and rims used and approximate clearances
and any input you think would be worthwhile to someone looking to buy a kit.

To the reader: remember that the information posted is subjective, so your idea of a "smooth ride" may not be the same as someone else's.
The factory rear track bar mount has shitty welding from the factory. You may wish to have it reinforced no matter what lift you pick.
I will go first.

Superlift 4" lift kit with the hydro shocks
Installation was pretty strait forward with no real surprises in the instructions. Only special tools used (and you should have these anyway) were 6 ton jack stands, a floor jack, a power drill and bits. I also used a ratchet strap to pull the axle into location to make lining up the track bar easier.
It took me no more than 5 hours.
To pop in the replacement urethane bump stops the easiest way is to stick them in the cup and use a jack under the axle to force them in. After you install the front aluminum bump stop extensions TAKE THEM OFF and stick them in the front coil when installing it. This gives you a good 2" less height you have to get over to put the coils in.
A pipe or crow bar will pop the coils in, or a good swift kick.

Ride quality is BETTER than stock.
Lift would easily fit 36-37's but will not "stuff" them. I am running 35x12.5 radial claws on 15x8 Cregar "D" window rims with 3.75 backspacing. The tires stick out maybe 2" at the most past the flare if even that.

Once you get the kit installed you can fix the steering issue for the most part your self till you get an alignment. Loosen the 2 9/16 nuts on the locking/adjusting collar on the drag link and turn the collar "upward" around 5 times. Use a vice grip or whatever. Then go and turn the wheels back and forth a few times and see how much more you need to adjust till the steering and wheels are strait. If you drive and let go of the wheel you can see how much more you need as well. You can easily do this fix in a parking lot as you need to have it at normal ride height while doing it and the parking lot lets you drive forward and check.

total high is 6' 7"

im running a tera bb/skyjacker 2.5 bastard lift

i had the tera 2.5 inch BB but when installed the shrockworks bumper and the winch the front end sagged down

so up front i am running skyjacker 2.5 inch coils with 3/4 inch spacers and in the rear i am running tera 2.5 inch BB spacers

the shocks are stock rubi shocks with tera 2.5 inch bb extenders, in the front i have a superlift track bar and in the rear i have a tera track bar

i have rear extended sway bar links from skyjacker in the rear, and the rear swaybar links up front

it ride amazingly well, just like stock, and fits 35's and aheavy bumper/winch like a champ

Thanks, doc for posting this. I will be watching this topic with great interest while deciding on which lift to purchase. I'm looking for a budget spacer lift but see many variations.

Some have front and rear extended bump stops
Some have the front track bar bracket
Some have the rear sway bar brackets
The list goes on.

Very confusing when trying to do it right.

Brand and size of lift.

Superlift 2" BB with shocks

Options in that lift..

Came with front and rear bump stops. No extended SB links.

Ease of installation and issues that came up.

Installation was about what you would expect for a BB. The shocks were TJ shocks so pressing in the larger bar pin for the rears was a pain and required rigging up a press using a hydrolic ram we had sitting around.

Special tools needed.

Rigged up a press.

Subjective ride quality change.

Better than stock. The shocks are stiffer so much less body roll and rebound off of bumps.

Tires and rims used and approximate clearances .

33/12.5R15 Toyo OPMT mounted on 15X8 Cragar Soft 8s (5X5, 4" BS)

and any input you think would be worthwhile to someone looking to buy a kit.

Was the cheapest BB that i could find that came with shocks. I would and am buying this kit again.

Brand and size of lift.

Skyjacker 4" with Nitro shocks

Options in that lift..

Optional pitman arm. I am forgoing the Skyjacker rear trackbar relocation bracket brace for an adjustable rear track bar (front adj bar also)

Ease of installation and issues that came up.

Very easy install. Took me and a buddy about four hours. No real issues that came up.

Special tools needed.

Nothing special, just the normal hand tools and a drill with bits. We had access to a lift so that made things easier.

Subjective ride quality change.

Very nice. I would say better than stock, but the lift went on with 17 miles on it (I took possesion when it had 10) so I don't have a very good point of reference.

Tires and rims used and approximate clearances .

Wheels: Ultra Thunders 18x8.5, +12 offset, 5.25" backspacing, no clearance issues (possibly for sale...looking at some beadlocks)
Tires: 35x12.50x18 Nitto Mud Grapplers, very nice tire, sounds like a WWII bomber on road, but is not loud, if that makes sense. Grips very well off road.

and any input you think would be worthwhile to someone looking to buy a kit.

Don't be scared of the crap you've heard about the Skyjacker kit. The relocation brackets are a bad idea with any lift and the only real design flaw with Skyjacker. Just buy some adjustable track bars (you should have them anyways), no worries.

Brand and size of lift:
DAYSTAR 1.75" lift

Options in that lift:
Spacer lift only

Ease of installation and issues that came up:
None, took less than an hour to install

Special tools needed:
Simple hand tools

Subjective ride quality change:
The ride quality changed for the better due to the M-Force shocks I installed with the lift

Tires and rims used and approximate clearances:
Factory wheels, 275/70/17 GY MTRs with Spidertrax 1.5" spacers

Any input you think would be worthwhile to someone looking to buy a kit:
This is a great kit for gaining a little extra height and clearance. I only bought this lift as a pacifier before I go with a 4" lift.

I would like to know if any one has stacked a 1" spacer on the front on top of a 2.5 bb, i see it in teraflex's catalog just curious if this helps with any clearance issues and 35's. pics would be great if you got them
thanks

Brand and size of lift.

Rusty's 3.25 lift

Options in that lift..
quick discos, upgraded shocks

Ease of installation and issues that came up.
Very easy to install... no special tools. Took me 3.5 hours.

Subjective ride quality change.
Very nice... better than stock.

Tires and rims used and approximate clearances .
Wheels: Uniroyal 15X8 with 4.5 inch back space rims... Tires Maxell BigHorn MT 35X12.5

and any input you think would be worthwhile to someone looking to buy a kit
This kit did not come with bump stops... I was initially concerned with it. However, after installing the kit and checking the geometry, the bump stops are not necessary. Because of this, the combination provides maximum articulation. When bump stops are required, and shocks limit max travel, it does affect aticulation.

I have a suggestion to add the actual lift amount (inches) to the information. Great idea for a thread.
