I have a 2008 JKU Rubicon auto with a 3 inch BDS lift. I've gone offroading twice and the last time I hit the front drive shaft on the trans pan so I'm in the market for a smaller diameter front drive shaft.

Well that sucks...would that have happened with a 2012 manual?

I've heard that the manuals are ok but I'm not sure, check out more posts on the forum I'm sure there's something written up on it.

I am running the TF leveling kit (spacers) with an extra 3/4" in front. I installed the Spidertrax 1.5" spacers. Here are my observations:

The 35s made it really slower. I have 4.10s as it's a 2008 Rubicon but it's much more noticeable than I thought it would be. Driving around town which is most of my driving is really slow. On the highway, 70 mph is about all it will do comfortably unless it's totally flat. I just did 3,000 miles back and forth to Colorado and it took forever and was really annoying. I got passed by "wide load" trucks in the windy sections. Not sure how much it costs to re-gear but I will strongly consider it.

The mods I have are below. Hope that is helpful for somebody.
VERY informative!! This is what I heard from a few people in my local Jeep club. THANK YOU for some REAL info that we newbies need to know about!!

Very informative thread! Thanks for posting up as I was thinking of buying tires and wheels really soon. Not to hijack or anything, but I just noticed people weren't really talking about their top end speed when regearing to 5.13s. I also have the stock 3.73 gears w/ an auto tranny. When you guys regeared to a higher ratio, did you lose top end speed? I hit a variety of traffic from stop and go to highway speeds off 65 mph+.

GREAT question..again..I agree..nobody has mentioned /asked this from what I have read thus far. A fellow (2008) 2DR owner in my club has 35s on 2.5 of lift, brand unknown, but it is definitely high end (looks like long track bars in the back). He is 60 yrs old and believes (his quote) "Jeeps shouldn't be going over 70 MPH anyway". He also says they take his wifes car if they have to go on the highway. He is running 5.13 gears with an auto trans. He told me before the gear change that he would be at 2k RPM on flats..ANY amount of "hill" (keep in mind we're in FL) would cause a downshift. Now he runs at 3K RPM "all the time". He also is claiming 17 MPG.

I have a 2009 2 DR, 6 spd man. X package. Stock rubi wheels and tires the day I left the lot. I get 15 MPG if I'm lucky. I don't drive like a maniac (I'm not a kid or pissed at the world). I drive city and highway. My Jeep is my DD. My head spins when thinking about this stuff. I hear sooooooo many things.. makes me wanna stay stock. OY!

I'm right there with you, SUNPRO. I've heard the same things and cannot believe some of the mpg that these modded rigs have. I bounce back between 15.8 and 17.0 on my stock JKU. When I had my 2 dr Rubicon with a Gobi roof rack, ace rock rails, rugged ridge front bumper, and a warn m8000 winch, I got 15.8 mpg at the best.. all on the stock rubi MTs and wheels.

So since my last post here is the list I've done to get ready for 35"s. keep in mind I'm building for 37"s so that I won't have issues with the 35"s for sure and if I ever decide to go to 37"s, I'm ready.

New front drive shaft
EVO Sleeves, gussets, outer axle seals
W U R X rear bumper with carrier.

Eventually I'll do a rear drive shaft but I'll wait a bit. Now just to get the tires!

So Help me out here. My 2012 just recently got hit. My buddy owns the body shop and while it was apart we installed a 2.5 RK spring/shock kit. I bought 35" MT baja's and black rock 17" rims with what I believe the proper offset. My gearing is 3.21 (my first jeep who knew).

I dont need spacers from what I've read but what will I need to do to make it okay? Not a wheeler, just like a high jeep. I do like snow but it won't go off road.

It's an automatic. Ty
