Lock front or back
It depends. I had the same debate. If you are going to regear you need a new carrier to run 5.13s in the Dana 30. If you are going with a new carrier, it might as well be a locker. The back will get you slightly more performance, but you can regear and then add a locker later without throwing away parts. However, if you are paying for labor on a regear, you might want to have the back locked at the same time.
Bottom-line: if regearing lock the front, or lock both. If not regearing, lock the back. Also, if locking the front use a selectable locker for safety on snow and ice.
I locked both with ARB lockers, added RCV axles up front and just ordered sleeves and gussets for the d30.

A new carrier for the dana 30 will only cost you 70 bucks approx. Dont lock the front because of that. I have heard countless people tell me that have both lockers that they use the rear a lot more than the front and that locking the front means it is more likely u will break stuff on a dana 30. Again if u have a dana 30 and only have money for one locker, i think a selectable in the rear is the only way to go. If u have the money for both get both. U should regear at the same time or else u are paying for double labor.
