Lockers / gearing question
Not any time soon, but thinking about diff lock, the ones I've seen say they are for 3:73 and up, I have factory 3:21 and stock size tires, not really looking at going much bigger or regearing, my question is, what does the gear ratio have to do with the locker? Why not the locker with 3:21, I don't do any rock crawling, just roads through the deer lease, Wich just get slick more than obstacles
It's about the carrier size which changes with 3.73 and down (higher numerical value).
I think this permalink should work, and it has a decent explanation from DT. It's really about the height of the ring gear teeth which then causes the carrier to have to change a bit to keep the pinion meshing perfectly -

I have never quite thought about it, but I can see how your situation is very unique. Almost nobody is looking to lock a diff with 3.21 gears. It wouldn't make any sense at all for 99.99% of peoples' builds. You are the unicorn.
. Honestly, you would be a prime candidate to fine some take off rubi axles with 3.73 gearing and toss em under there, picking up e-lockers in the process. Most people looking for rubi axles aren't wanting 3.73 gearing cuz they'd have to pay additional to regear them. Also, there are way more rubi axles with 3.73 gearing floating around than 4.10 gearing.

The roads on our deer lease are clay, they don't really have any ruts or anything deep to go through, it's just slick when it's been raining, some of the inclines aren't very steep, but being slick can be hard to get up

Ha, yeah, that's why I was saying it's just clay, no obstacals other than just slick, I don't need the gearing or bigger tires, stock size works as long as you have good tread. For me, around here, off road is smooth, just slicj
