Well, your Sahara model comes with LSD, which is clutch based, and good for approximately 70 K miles.
But if I had to spend the money, I'd sure go with the "upgrade" and buy the Detroit "True-Trac". This is gear-based
and 3.5 time stronger than the OEM LSD you have that is standard in the Sahara Jeep.
Good luck, and happy Jeeping! I did a price check and it's about $1,200/parts and labor at a local shop that
specializes in Detroit True-Trac stuff.

Sorry to hijack the thread! You can do the lockers at different times. You're gonna want to do your back locker first! Then you could put a low budget lift on, then put a front locker in.

its a sahara with a D30 in the front. Its not the best idea to lock up a D30 it will probably break and be an expensive fix

I would love to hear the reason behind this... Only thing I can think of is the longer wheel base being easier to high center

It sounds like $ issues to me! Just saying, cuz most of us have been in that situation! What to do first.

So you're looking at 33" tires. I would suggest a 2.5" coil lift. Teraflex and Rough Country both have good 2.5" lifts that are complete. Coil lift will make it ride smoother than a BB coil spacers (I've got spacers and my neighbor's coil lift is smoother.)

I would also suggest looking at a lunch-box locker because they are cheap and the designs have been getting better. You can install yourself and cost only ~$250.

I vote LIFT first.

I went out with a group of 15 Jeeps on Saturday. There was one obstacle, most difficult of the day, I made it up with a 2.5" lift, no lockers. There were a few stock Rubi's that couldn't make it up this hill because they didn't have the ground clearance. The stock rubi's had to back down the hill and take the bypass.

Another advantage of the lift is not just ground clearance. It also gives you more articulation, especially if it includes the disconnects. I've found that people with stock Sport suspensions tend to not disconnect because it's too much of a pain. More out of laziness though. The disconnects will keep both wheels on the ground as opposed to not disconnecting and popping one wheel up in the air and losing traction.

Plus, as others have mentioned, wait for the lockers until you do a gear change for larger tires.

Thanks for all the help. Sounds like lift is the way to go. I checked out the teraflex 2.5. Looks like a straight forward install. Will search the other threads for more info.

Good choice. You will be surprised where a small lift and the traction control system will get you. (Brake lock diff)
