Default LoD Rear Bumper and Towing??

Has anyone with the LoD Generation II Rear Bumper ever towed anything with it? Is it strong enough or made to be used in towing? And if not can it be made to do so?

You will rarely find an aftermarket bumper manufacturer with a 2" receiver built in that will actually rate it for towing. The liability is too high, so they will never officially say that it is meant for towing, and certainly not heavy towing.

However, I have owned many aftermarket bumpers in my day and here is how I break it down. The stock tow hitch mounted to the rear crossmember and was rated at the tow capacity that chrysler specifies, which has more to do with the weight of the Jeep, braking performance etc., as it does with the strength of the rear crossmember/frame. The aftermarket bumpers are welded the same and mounted to the same place. It will be fine. I have towed 3500 lbs. with an aftermarket set up just like the LoD, and been fine. This was not daily, or even weekly, but occasionally. You will not have any problems, but keep it reasonable and within the factory specifications for your Jeep's towing capacity.

Good to know guys, thanks! I just got my LoD rear bumper installed and was hoping to be able to use it for towing a pop-up camper or small camper some day. Glad to know it will actually work and is not just for looks.

I tow with my Gen 1 LoD bumper fairly frequently. Palo Duro Canyon
