Exclamation LOD rear and front bumper issues....

Hey all

I had already added my LOD front mid-with and today i added my LOD tire carrier today, here is the pic

One odd thing about both the LOD front and rear bumpers that they neglect to mention is that they do NOT include what is needed after the bumper lights relocation on the front and rear bumper center stop light. More specifically, they do NOT include wire extensions and you will have to splice and extend the fronts as well as splice and extend the rear stop light wire (even tho it says it includes everything you need for both).

Also, something that makes no sense at all is the way the tire carrier locks after you move it out to a 90 degree angle. There is a spring loaded bolt in the pivot section that will drop down into a premade hole. This seems like a good idea at first so that the tire carrier can be locked in the 90 degree position as needed. However, LOD did not include ANYTHING to pull the bolt back out of the hole. So in order to close your tire carrier you must find a screw driver and pry that bolt UP in order to unlock it. Annoyingly bad design.

However, otherwise, the bumpers look great.

PS dont expect ANY instructions on how to install the front midwidth, none came with mine and there were none online. This was extremely annoying and added at least another hour to the install due to trial and error. The rear bumper (full size) does have PDF instructions online but none are sent with it.

There are many bumps and hiccups throughout the install that would easily have been avoided if instructions were existant or more specific. This was the first time we worked on a JK and it is significantly different in many design ways.

What have other peoples experience been?

Hey

Well i was not talking about the write ups here (not everyone who has a jk happens to be on the website), i was talking about the company included stuff. I did a search for LOD bumpers here but didnt find that specific post, thanks.

Still does not really answer the question about that spring loaded pin nor why LOD would not include instructions for the front bumper and limited ones for the rear.

i believe the pin has a handle, you may be missing hardware. Call LOD and ask.

Most bumpers do not come with instructions, they assume people work on Jeeps enough not to need them.

hehe

Well, i dont see a handle on the write up either, tho i will call.

As for builds? Well my buddies and I have done jeeps from the ground up. The fact is, JKs are different, hell every frikin jeep is different and there are little tweaks which usually come with instructions (like when we added the rubi express lift) which make for much shorter work.

Dicking around for an extra hour because the company is too cheap to include instructions on over 1000$ worth of equipment is for chumps really, there isnt anything to be gained by having to take the whole bumper off the 3rd time because it didnt say you had to do X before Y and it was not obvious... To me, that isnt much to ask for.

Nice looking Jeep bud.

It seems there are alot of people running this bumper and someone that owns one and has installed one will chime in soon.

I agree on the instructions. They should be included. It appears that moderator is having a bad day and IMO his comments were unwarranted.

I guess next time someone's looking for a write up, I wont post it.

Here's the quote from LOD's page about the fog lights he believes should be in the kit

The Signature Series bumper is constructed of a combination of 10 gauge, 3/16", and 1/4" steel. The bumper is designed with an integrated 2" receiver that ties directly into the rear cross-member of the frame. The bumper also comes standard with two fully welded shackle mounts that accept 3/4" shackles with up to a 7/8" pin. We also provide an optional light kit that includes two (2)-55 watt halogen lights with wiring and a switch. The bumper comes standard with provisions for bolting in the lights we provide with the optional kit. To see more photo's of the Signature Series Bumper/Tire Carrier click the link at the bottom.

The way I see it the negative vibe was NOT created by the op. Here is a person who has spent considerable coin on a sponsoring vendors product and did not receive any instructions along with those product(s).

The op obviously is frustrated and was IMO searching for a resolution from someone else who has installed this product without having to wait until monday morning when he can contact the vendor.

To be told that most people who order bumpers know how to work on Jeeps already is ridiculous!
