Default Long Tube Headers in California

Is there anyone living in California that has installed the RIPP Long tube headers on their Jeep? If so, how did you get it through emissions?

Yes, I am running them. My plan to get through emissions? I'm saving the old exhaust system to put it back on. I think that is about all you can do.

That blows! I'm going to try to get through it, if I have to I'll change them out, but probably won't put them back on

Since I have never lived in Cali, I don't know for sure on this, but I thought the smog laws were that if your vehicle was 6 years or newer, you are just charged an abatement fee and you don't have to prove certification

if you have all equipment working properly, I would think even with long tube, you should still pass. If you don't have to pay large amounts of $$, it may be worth it to try the test and if you fail, then go back and change everything out, retest, then once you pass, switch out again.

remember, I have never lived there and we don't have emissions requirements in FL, just trying to help

It wont pass the visual inspection must have a CARB #. Doesn't matter if pure oxygen came out the tail pipe, no CARB# = fail. I'm pretty sure the headers replace the cats too. Thats a major no-no in Cali. You can't even move them from the factory spot.

The 6 year thing, might even be 7, not sure... If you buy the car new, you don't have to smog it for 6-7 years. After that you have to smog it every 2 years. Also if its sold it must be smogged.

Yeah it sucks. It wasn't uncommon for the Police to check under your hood for illegal mods back when street racing was at its peak. Something as simple as a CAI without a CARB # could get you cited.

Yes, visual is the problem. I went to smog my dually, and I have the edge module on it. I had to remove the entire thing before a few shops would pass it. I argued that the edge just monitored everything, but no go.

I am fully expecting to have to remove the headers for smog. That'll be a good excuse to coat them when they are off. Always look at the positive! Even though it is about 6 hours to remove and put back on. Those bolts are hard to get to!!

I'm hoping that since the factory heat shields are still there, the guy won't notice that headers are installed. You have to make an effort to see them.

Also, there still are cats on the headers, just two, not 4 like on the stock setup. If I have to remove them, they'll probably go up for sale, I can't see removing them every 2 years to pass emissions.
