I just figured out a simple quick fix for the problem with the bolts for the door surrounds. The plastic head of the bolt always wants to pull off of the bolt if you tighten down the bolt too much. This makes it impossible to tighten the door surrounds as good as they should be. I found some old washer laying around in that infamous junk draw that we all have in our garages. You know the drawer with ten tons of old nuts, bolts & washer that are always left over after installs. I don' know the exact size of the washer, but it was too small to fit over the bolt. Just what you need. I took 4 of those washers, put them each in my drill press vise and drilled them out with a 5/16" bit. This was the perfect size. I then had to work the washer on to the bolt. I closed my vise so that the washer was able to sit flush on the top of the vise, but the bolt could slide beyond that. I then hit the plastic knob with my hand and drove the washer up snug to the plastic knob. There are teeth on the bolt that slide into and grab the inside of the plastic knob. The washer sits flush against those teeth and will not go any further. You can now put those bolts back on the door surround and crank them as tight as you want with your hand, which will hold them tight enough to keek them from moving. I have added a picture of the washer on the bolt.

Im actually not sure. I went to Lowes with the shifter cover in hand and found some tiny and short bolts that would fit. They were shorter than they should have been but I wrenched them on.

brilliant! i'll be doing this the next time my top comes off. i was gunna jb weld the metal shaft in the plastic but this will be easier, neater, and will likely work better and last longer. thanks

Default Stuff the gap between the windshield and dash with pipe insulation

One of the first things I did. https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/show...h-upgrade-1.67. Has saved me from any number of potential lost items.
