Are LTB's that terrible???
I really want a skinnier tire i.e 34x10.5 or something similar but that tire size is incredibly hard to find. I've only noticed LTB and SSR super swamper come in that width. I've heard that LTB's are not meant to be driven on the road and the SSR's (35x10.5) would break the bank as they sell for $250 a pop. A forum member has the LTB's on his JK and they look awesome. Some folks are going with 255/85r16's which I have considered but are those too narrow for a 16x8 rim? All thoughts and comments appreciated.
Oh!! and I have used the search feature but didn't have too much luck. Thanks in advance.

Better traction with a wider tire..which most people want, which is why you cant find them....If you're dead set on a skinny, you'll probably have to pay a little more since they dont make or stock many of them in most places. Just my guess.
Not always true. Depending on your terrain, cutting through and getting to the bottom is sometimes the way. I know people that swear by tall-skinnies and at the local mud-runs, you won't see wide tires unless they are on 1000hp nitrous fed buggy. Swamper USE to make a 34X9.50 . A buddy I went to high school with had them on his FJ40. They were perfect as he had a 350 under the hood and no power steering. The only time he ever had troubles was in sand (which is a time skinnys are worthless and why I will never run them). They ran awesome on the street and balanced out better than any swamper that IVE ever run. But I've also heard the LTBs are horrible on the road. I would bet that it's liveable but I have no real experience with LTBs. You have to keep in mind that some people will say that anything more aggresive than a radial AT is gonna ride like hell. LTBs are DOT approved so as long as you can get them to balance, you should be fine.

Huh... you must have extra abrasive roads in your area. I've been through 2 sets of Thornbirds (yes... I actually bought a 2nd set!! lol), 2 sets of TSLs, and a set of SXs and all lasted about 2years each. And all flat spotted. The T-Birds rode the best ON road and the SXs were murder.
Owned STS's, too... but they're radial.

Thanks fellas for all the feedback..........Steve, your JK is the one I was referencing w/ the LTBs, looks awesome. I used to run T'birds on a Tacoma and didn't mind the ride on those, it got squirelly every time it rained but What did I care-----I was 16 and had a badass truck or so I thought. 31x12.5's w/o a lift
horrible. I should probably only consider a wider, as DeezUU mentioned for sand, here in N FL we have a lot of sugar sand. On a different note, Do you guys think a 255/85r16 (33.2x10.2) would look ok on a 16x8 rim, or do you think that rim is too wide?

Hell... if you're in Fl, you have to run the area standard don't ya?! That would be 44" Hawgs for the Fla gumbo mud. Hahaha. Some of the biggest damn trucks I've ever seen stomp those grounds.
and the 255/85 will work fine on a 16X8.

I'm thinking about the Iroks for my next set. Will the radials last any longer, or pretty much the same?
