Default lug nut problem

Well I finally got my tires from Discount Tire Direct and I go to put them on last night and the lug nuts aren't tightening up. I took a look at the size of the new ones and they are 1/2". The ones that were on with my old tires were 12x1.5. I called DTD about this and they said they cant send me any 12x1.5 nuts because all Jeeps are supposed to have 1/2" nuts and they'd be liable if something were to happen.

Wtf do I do? Am I the only one with this size lug nut?

Also, I would just re-use the old lugs, but I can't because they are too bulky and the center cap to my black rocks won't fit over them.

I'm confused how you're measuring those sizes. Regardless, is it possible to reuse your old lugnuts? The answer may be "no" if you're replacing steel wheels with alloys--look at the bottom of the lug nut and if it's the same shape and angle as the ones they sent, then they should work okay. Again, most steel wheels use a flat-faced, flanged lugnut that is unsuitable for alloy wheels, so don't do this if that's what you're replacing.

Edit: Doh! Did you just edit that comment about the old lugs in? I should have typed more quickly!

The sizes are on the side of the lug nut.

The old nuts can't be re-used because they are more bulky and the center cap to my Black Rocks won't fit over them.

Okay, we're comparing metric (12x1.5) with SAE (1/2", unspecified pitch). I believe DTD is correct: Our Jeeps have 1/2x20 lugnuts. I went out and measured one of mine to determine that number.

Hmmm, another thought: Some of the lugnuts are actually just a sheetmetal cap over a much smaller nut. Is it possible that yours come apart to let you use the old lugnuts?

on the 1/2"-20 lug nuts there are 2 different hex sizes. I know this because they lost one of mine at the tire place and put a "new" one on the spare tire. Needed the spare one day and tried to use the factory lug wrench and
