LugNuts on Cragers
I have the stock lugs and the Cragar lugs. They are not the same. The threading is the same but they seat completely differently. The Cragar lugs lay into the holes of the Cragar whells making smooth contact through the entire hole. The stock lug nuts do not spread the load, making contact only on the interior of the cutout (the backside of the wheel only, not all the way front to back). I was advised by three different shops to use the correct lugs. None of these shops had them and they would not sell me other lugs for the wheels because of liability issues. Good enough for me.
I am using the stock lugs to hold on my spare but I am going to purchase five more Cragar spec lugs for the following reason. If i'm on the trail and lose a lug, I want the correct one to put back on.
You can buy the correct lugs for less than the price of a tank of gas. This is a no brainer.

I suggest changing the lugs.Years ago I bought a a 69 charger. A week after I bought it thought Id open it up on the highway. Needless to say wrong lugs on cragers and my car was gone. Lost the wheel and took out the guardrail. Now I always check the wheels on anything I buy
Thanks JKDoc, I picked up some for $20 at Rimco. The acorn bevel on the nut is about half the depth of the stock lugs. It seems like they'll seat better. Is this the way the nuts you have are? Sorry for the questions, but for safety sake, I'd rather be doubly sure. The guy at rimco said they use them alot on Cragers, but he didn't look to swift, if you know what I mean.
